Millennium Periodontal Laser is used to treat periodontal disease and regrow new boneMillennium PerioLase MVP-7 Laser

Dr. Wetzler is the first periodontist in Westchester to be trained and certified in the FDA approved and patented procedure called LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure).  The patented laser treatment allows Dr. Wetzler to treat periodontal disease and regrow new bone and attachment to teeth without the traditional “cut and stitch” gum surgery that has been the hallmark of periodontists for years. This approach is revolutionizing the treatment of periodontal disease.

As of March 2016, the PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG has received the WORLD’S FIRST FDA CLEARANCE for periodontal regeneration- true regeneration of the attachment apparatus (new cementum, new periodontal ligament, and new alveolar bone) on a previously diseased root surface when used specifically in the LANAP protocol.

Without using a scalpel or stitching the gum, the Nd:YAG PerioLase is used to kill the bacteria in the pocket and then reattach the gum to the tooth. LANAP eliminates diseased tissue while preserving healthy gums, so scalpels and sutures are eliminated, discomfort is minimized and the results are exceptional. Histological studies prove that LANAP can regrow new bone and new attachment to the teeth. Be cautioned that every patient’s healing is different. How closely you comply with the instructions after treatment, how thoroughly you clean your teeth and how regularly you come in for post-laser maintenance care will make a big difference in your results.

LANAP is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes or those taking medications such as coumadin or aspirin as there is no need to stop taking these before the procedure.
